Magazine double page spread options

I have analysed these genres again, but this time I analysed two of the pages inside.
There are many similarities between all the double page spreads. These are, there is always a main picture of the band or at least one person. Also the backgrounds of these are very simple and there is not a lot going on to detract away from the main focus, which s the band. Also, there is always paragraphs on other celebrities and relationships between the main band, and the second band. There is always a segment on the band, what the do now, and how well they are doing. This has told me what I need to put in my magazine as I can see a trend in what readers want to see.

My magazine genre options

For my media magazine, I have 3 options for music genres. These are hip hop, rock and 80's music. I chose these genres as I enjoy these types of music and I feel like I know enough about these magazines to make a magazine right for my target audience. I have analysed each of the options to make sure my final option will be my best, and so I will know what I will need to do to make a magazine that looks like the genre that it is going to be. Next, I will be looking at the double page spreads of these genres to help me understand what needs to be put into my magazine. after that, I will analyse content pages of these genres, then make my final decision on what my music magazine is going to be about. I am also going to be conducting questionnaires and focus groups to make sure I understand my target audience perfectly and I know what the would want in my magazine.

Review on my magazine

I started out with my first attempt of designing the magazine, but when I looked at previous front covers, I realised that mine looked more like a poster than a magazine. So I conducted a recording for some market research of two pupils looking at the cover whilst I asked them questions. There were more aspects that I needed to change so I decided instead of trying to correct that original front cover, I would re start altogether and see how that would turn out.

So with my second attempt, I knew that I had to make it look more like a real magazine cover. So instead of having just a background of one colour, I chose to have a student on the front. This then ticked more boxes on Maslows hierarchy of needs. It made the magazine look at lot better and started to give it more of a personal meaning for the purpose that I was creating it, for the school.

I then asked some more student what I could change and the main problem was the font and the colour of the writing. So after I changed all of these problems I then ended up with my final design.
